What is Flexeril?

Cyclobenzaprine or Flexeril is a muscle relaxant. It is related to a class of drugs called Skeletal Muscle Relaxants. This medication works by preventing nerve impulses or pain sensations from reaching your brain.

Some medications can interact with cyclobenzaprine, resulting in a serious condition known as serotonin syndrome. Make sure your doctor is aware if you are also taking stimulant medication, opioid medication, herbal products, or medication for depression, mental illness, Parkinson’s disease, migraine headaches, serious infections, or medicine to prevent nausea and vomiting.   • glaucoma
  • enlarged prostate
  • liver disease

How to take Flexeril?

A cyclobenzaprine overdose can be fatal.

The overdose symptoms may include vomiting, severe drowsiness, fast heartbeats, agitation, tremors, or hallucinations.

What to avoid while using Flexeril?

Avoid driving and any other hazardous activities until you know how cyclobenzaprine will affect you. Your reactions could be impaired.

Do not drink alcohol while using this drug. It may lead to dangerous side effects.

Flexeril side effects

The common side effects of Flexeril include:

  • drowsiness
  • tiredness
  • headache
  • dizziness
  • dry mouth
  • upset stomach
  • nausea
  • constipation

If you have serotonin syndrome symptoms, such as hallucinations, agitation, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea, fever, sweating, shivering, fast heart rate, twitching, muscle stiffness, loss of coordination,  seek medical attention right away.

The serious side effects may be more likely in older people.

What drugs can interact with Flexeril?

Tell your doctor about all your other medications, especially:

  • tramadol
  • verapamil
  • narcotics
  • bupropion
  • meperidine
  • drugs to treat excess stomach acid, stomach ulcer, motion sickness, or irritable bowel syndrome
  • cold or allergy medications that contain an antihistamine (Benadryl and others)
  • medicines to treat Parkinson’s disease

Other medications, such as prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products may interact with cyclobenzaprine.
